AstraZenecahas announced that it will sell the rights to, which is the only new class-action lawsuit to date to cover AstraZeneca’s marketing and pricing strategies.
The lawsuit is AstraZeneca’s first class action case against the world’s largest drug company for marketing its blockbuster heartburn medication Nexium. The lawsuit claims that AstraZeneca’s marketing strategies for Nexium, the brand name for the blockbuster heartburn drug, were ineffective, leading to severe stomach and intestinal damage.
AstraZeneca, an American pharmaceutical company, is one of the world’s largest healthcare providers with an estimated $1.7 billion in annual sales. The company is among the top ten U. S. drug companies for the year 2019, accounting for 14.5 percent of total U. sales. It has an estimated $8.8 billion in annual revenue.
“The lawsuit claims that AstraZeneca’s marketing strategies for Nexium were ineffective, leading to severe stomach and intestinal damage,” the suit states. “This type of marketing strategy for AstraZeneca is not appropriate and is therefore an essential part of our global strategy for navigating our health agenda.”
The suit seeks to hold AstraZeneca accountable for marketing, pricing, and marketing strategies that failed to meet the U. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) and the FDA’s standards. In addition, the lawsuit seeks to enjoin other pharmaceutical companies from continuing to sell Nexium for “off-label” use. All these actions are part of the company’s current strategy to address the health needs of its patients and the United States’ global health care system.
“The ongoing marketing efforts for Nexium are clearly inadequate, leading to severe stomach and intestinal damage,” the suit states. “As a result, AstraZeneca faces no accountability for the drug’s marketing efforts.”
This lawsuit was filed in the U. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Eastern Division on behalf of all of AstraZeneca’s current and former customers. AstraZeneca is represented by U. and European law firms and is a member of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers of America (IFPA) and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).
The lawsuitAstraZeneca’s marketing and pricing strategies include the following:
“We believe that AstraZeneca is responsible for the successful and effective treatment of patients with chronic heartburn, acid reflux, and other chronic medical conditions,” said Mary-Jane M. Miller, senior vice president, global pharmaceuticals for AstraZeneca. “The impact of this new class action settlement is immense. This is the largest, most important class action lawsuit in the United States.”
AstraZeneca is one of the world’s largest healthcare providers with an estimated $1.7 billion in annual sales. It is among the top ten U.“This lawsuit is the largest, most important class action lawsuit in the United States and represents an unprecedented opportunity for AstraZeneca to bring a class action against this global pharmaceutical company that has been struggling with the challenges of navigating the health system,” said Michael W. Koehler, executive vice president, global pharmaceuticals for AstraZeneca. “This is the largest, most important class action lawsuit in the United States and represents an unprecedented opportunity for AstraZeneca to bring a class action lawsuit.”
